Escape Room Games Master

Deadlocked Escape Rooms are looking for reliable, warm and engaging Games Masters for flexible part time work, running Escape Room games.

Escape Rooms are a leisure activity where groups are ‘locked’ in a room and have 60 minutes to find clues, solve puzzles and escape the room. Overseeing each group is a dedicated Games Master (GM) who greets the teams, watches them play and sends in clues as required.

A GM’s duties include:

  • Greeting teams – Explaining the rules of Escape Rooms and ensuring everyone is prepared.
  • Running games – Ensuring the games run smoothly, injecting hints and story elements as required
  • Debriefing teams – Explaining where teams did well, what they may have missed and taking the important ‘team photo’ at the end of the game.
  • Resetting rooms – After the game, the room must be reset accurately to ensure it is ready for the next group.

Being a GM can be a lot of fun; almost like playing a strategy game yourself, where you must give teams just what they need to be able to solve the room themselves, while giving them enough room to feel the satisfaction of success.

Qualities of an idea candidate are:

  • Great with people – This is a customer facing job, where you will be the first and last person a team interacts with. We want everyone to leave happy and excited, and you will be empowered to make that happen.
  • Reliable – Bookings are like performances; they must be ready to start on time, so lateness could cause a serious issue.
  • Superb attention to detail – Rooms must be reset accurately otherwise the entire game could break down. Forget to put a lock on correctly, and a team could skip entire parts of the room. Don’t put an important clue back in the right position and guests (and other GMs) could be left scratching their heads.
  • Flexibility – While we can guarantee work over the weekend, sometimes weekday bookings come in that require multiple GMs, so some flexibility with work hours would be very beneficial.
  • Quick thinking – Sometimes the unexpected happens and a quick solution must be found, either to a customer service issue or something wrong with the room. The ability to think on your feet and act confidently could come in very handy.

Job would suit freelancers/performers/students who require flexible working hours.

Salary £8-£10 an hour, rising with experience and responsibilities.
